Open a book and stride into a whole different world in midst of adventure. Journeying through a deep wide jungle or suspected in a crime down the alley to being alone in a room with a pair of dark beady eyes looking at you; books truly are uniquely portable magic.

Designated by UNESCO on the 23rd of April 1995, World Book Day gives great tribute to the renowned literary figure William Shakespeare. This authentic day brings a ray of sunshine for every young child and person giving them the spark of imagination and pleasure of reading. Some people like to read biographies of influential history and some like novels that send chills down your spine. Some prefer classics but regardless of the type of books we like, the deep truth is that the world would not be the same without books. Books have educated and inspired us throughout our lives.

Books are quiet but are true friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of teachers and have the virtue of patience. Books are part of our lives. The fluttering pages give us a chance to escape reality… We leave our chair, our house and the whole world behind us. We create new friends who journey with us through the bumps and bends of the letters until we reach the happily ever after and are back in the same chair in the house and everything we left behind but the story always lives in our hearts. Books have taught us to be courageous and face problems in our lives. Hence the mission of the booked day grows the sown seeds into avid readers. And so a bookshelf filled with books is the most breathtaking bliss for blooming readers.

Getting absorbed in a book blocking out all the noise and getting away from the surroundings is an exotic experience but above all books furnish our mind with materials of knowledge. A book consists of uncountable words that are formed by a group of letters. Some are large, some are small and they all have different sounds that make each one unique. A book is filled with diverse words that make us love that book more.

Alan Bennet once said: “A book is a device to ignite the imagination.”  Every line we read in a book has useful information. Every word inside a book acts like a tool that keeps the mind sharp.

World book day is the day where you can put some thoughts into encouraging others to read more and further find time for yourself to read a book. Just curl up somewhere warm with a cup of tea and crunches and enjoy every last page.

From the library of papyrus scrolls and parchments to the wide shelves of literature in pages of a book, world book day allows us to live a hundred lives by reading books and hydrate our knowledge. Let’s open the door to books and illuminate our lives…
