History of the Taj Mahal:

Whenever we remember Taj Mahal a clear picture of true love, sacrifice and dedication is framed in our mind. Well the Taj Mahal was built by mughal emperor Shahab Uddin Muhammad Khurram commonly known as Shah Jahan in the membrance of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of Taj Mahal started in the year 1631 and ended in 1653.The word “Taj Mahal” came from Persian language which means crown place or place of the crown. Almost around 22,000 labours and 1000 elephants made the palace.

Location and area:

Taj Mahal is one of the seven Wonders of world and best tourist attraction in India. It is the most beautiful and valuable place to visit. Taj Mahal is located in India in Agra a state of Uttar Pradesh. It is surrounded in the area of 17 hectares. It is 73 metres(240feet) high.

Some amazing facts about Taj Mahal:

Taj Mahal has Islamic calligraphy inscriptions all over it.

Almost 32 million rupees were spent in making it.

Taj Mahal is taller than Qutub Minar with a difference of 5 feet.

There are no lights at the Taj Mahal as it is already so beautiful and precious, and the other reason is that light attracts insects, so to glorify it’s beauty no lightning is done at the Taj Mahal.

Four pillars are titled outwards rather than standing straight to protect the main tomb known as Gumbad from falling.

The tomb has 99 different names of Allah as calligraphic inscriptions.

Begum Mumtaz Mahal died in Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh during the birth of her fourteenth child. Shah Jahan wished to make the Taj Mahal in Burhanpur but it was difficult to supply the precious white marble there, so he decided to make it in Agra.

Both Mumtaz and Shah Jahan are burried inside Taj Mahal:

Mumtaz Mahal was burried in Burhanpur but later was shifted to Agra (Taj Mahal). Muhi un Din Muhammad commonly known as Aurangzeb the son of Shah Jahan conquered the empire in 1658 when he fell ill, Aurangzeb imprisoned him there. Later on Shah Jahan killed himself there and was burried in Taj Mahal

Shah Jahan wished to make another Taj Mahal in black colour (black Taj Mahal) but war with his son stopped it.

It is a famous myth that the hand of the workers who made Taj Mahal were cut as Shah Jahan had not wanted another precious and rare monument like the Taj Mahal again.

Taj Mahal -the main attraction of Agra

Taj Mahal is made up of precious and rare white marbles. Taj Mahal changes different colours – pinkish in the morning, white in the evening and golden in the night.

Taj Mahal glorifies the beauty of Agra. Around 8 million people visit Taj Mahal every year.

The most recognisable feature of Taj Mahal is the domb at the peak of it known as onion domb which varies a height of 35 metres (115feet) and is surrounded by 4 other dombs.

It took 22 years to build. 28 types of precious stones are used in making it. Some stones were ripped off from the walls by the Britishers during the revolt of 1857.

The Taj Mahal is the best place to visit in India. Taj Mahal glorifies the India.
