India’s most popular and the longest running TV show CID has a different fan base. It has created a lot of historical moment. The show CID had started its journey from 1998, from Firehouse production. CID first aired on Sony TV on January 21, 1998 and is still very popular with viewers. The main theme of the show was the investigation method of the CID officers and their lifestyle, their struggle and their bonding between each other. Not only the show but also the characters of the show are very popular among the fans. ACP Pradyuman, Senior Inspector Abhijeet and Senior Inspector Daya were considered as ‘The 3 pillars of CID’. Another male cop of CID, Inspector Friedricks was the most funny one. The famous lady officers of the show were Sub Inspectors Purvi, Shreya, Tasha, Kajal etc. There was also an amazing forensic expert at CID, Dr. Salunkhe. At one time this amazing team became a member of every audience’s house .

Mr.Brijendra Pal Singh was the producer ,director and the creator of this show. The show CID was his dream project and this show gave a new direction to his profession. He had a role in this show called DCP Chitrole. Though his role was occasional but was very interesting. In addition to being a good director he was also a skilled actor. The lead role of the show ACP Pradyuman was played by Shivaji Satam. His serious personality took the show to a whole new level. ACP Pradyuman’s ideology was truly exemplary. The second most important character of the show were played by Aditya Srivastava. Here Aditya played the role of Senior Inspector Abhijeet. His sharp vision and intelligence fascinated the viewers. This character had a remarkable combination of flexibility with diplomacy and courage that captivated the audience every time. Dayananda Shetty played another important role as Senior Inspector Daya. His ‘Darbaza tod’ performance was really stunning. Dinesh Phadnis who played the role of Inspector Fredricks was amazing. Not only were there male cop on the show, there were also many female cops who greatly inspired the audience. The character of Inspector Purvi ,Inspector Shreya , Inspector Tasa, Dr. Tarika were such strong female character of the show.In this journey there were more artists who took part on the show . Many famous television artists like Rajeev Khandelwal , Anup Soni, Ronit Roy, Alka Verma, jaswir Kaur played their role in this show. Bollywood stars like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Saif Ali Khan also chossen CID as a unique platform to promote the movie. The list is long, personalities like Annu Malik, Abbas Mustan were also seen here.There was no age limit for CID fans, besides of children and youngsters, CID had stolen the heart of many audience, Lata Mangeshkar was also one of them. At first CID was telecast only one day in a week. But it was the unconditional love of fans that it became two to three days in a week. Besides of Sony entertainment television CID used to telecast on Sony pal too. CID was telecasted in various Language including Bengali. The show ‘CID Kolkata Bureau’ was the reflection of CID. CID was broadcast with the same popularity in Pakistan.

The main reason behind such popularity of the show was the shooting style. CID shooting was not limited to Mumbai, ACP Pradyuman and his team solved the case in a thrilling manner at various places including Mussoorie, Haridwar, Hrishikesh, Manali, Delhi, Kolkata, Jaisalmer, Ahmedabad, Satara, Pune, Goa, Kerala. They also went to London, Paris, Switzerland to taught the lessons to the criminals. The show had made history on November, 2004 when they shoot for 111 minutes within a single shot. CID’s name was recorded in the Limca Book of Records and Guinness Book of World record for this shoot. Passion for their work was on different level. They were always prepared to face any challenges. From the height of the mountains, to the depth of the sea, or the desert and the jungle , no matter where the criminals took shelter ,the CID team used to find the culprits. Not only mystery stories ,but they also did some adventurous stunts that tied the viewers to the TV screen. Last but not the least, friendship of Abhijeet and Daya were took a different place in the mind of viewers. Many fans were there who followed CID because of their bonding. It was another aspect of the show which inspired kids and youngsters very much.

In this historical journey from 1998 to 2018 the show had completed more than 1500 episodes. Usually the episode shots were 1 hour . There was some sub series too. The famous sub series were – ‘CID special Bureau’ (2004-2006); ’10 years of Glory: CID- Most Wanted’ (2007); ‘Water crime series’ and ‘Serial killer cases’ (2009); ‘Aakhri chunauti (2010); ‘Abhijeet ke ateet ka raaz’ (2010- 2011); ‘Grahan’ (2012); ‘Ganga series’ (2013); ‘Grifter series’ (2014) ; ‘Karo ya Maro’ (2016) ; ’21 Years of Bravery: CID vs The Eye’ (2017-2018) etc. CID also did some episodes together with shows like ‘Aahat’ ,’Adalat’ and ‘ Tarak mehta ka ulta chasma’. On 26 th January, 2010 Sony entertainment television had launched CID gallantry awards to felicitated the real heroes of our society. It was held continuously every year till 2013. This was the first time in the history of television that a separate award function was held in the name of a show. There are many moments like this that make ‘CIDians’ ( Fans of CID ) proud and compel viewers to love CID. The same thing has been said by actors and actresses of CID in different interviews. There was a time when fans waited for the interview of their favorite show to come in the news paper and they took care of it and kept it to themselves. This emotion may have been something different which may have caused the show to air again a few months later even after it was aired off by the channel.However, in October 2018, this historic path of CID came to an end.

In the end, the show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes, but it’s still popular with CID fans. They still upload various clips of CID on social networking sites and the number of fans today cannot be counted. In the journey of 21 years, CID taught many positive qualities like heroism, sense of responsibility, leadership, unity, friendship etc. Artists playing various roles in CID are still a norm for fans. Not only from the audience but they also had appreciated by the critics. CID owns many awards, such as the Indian Television Academy Award in 2002, 2004 ,2015; Indian Telly Awards 2004 etc. whether it’s an award or the love of audience, what CID has got is literally precious. During this long journey, CID became an identity of Sony TV. Never before in the history of television has there been such a successful show. So the effect of CID is still in the minds of the viewers in such a way that when there is a hint of doubt, we say ‘kuchh to gadbad hai’ !
