The potential is at the pinnacle when passion becomes profession…        A very thought-knocking statement, which really makes today’s youth wonder—“hey, what am I doing??”Well, we have our millennials ready in suits and boots, getting ready for the office. So, who’s left now? Yeah, it’s our Gen Z who is seriously supposed to get up from the sofa, give up PUBG, instagram  and simply, act smart. Smartness is revealed when one can amalgamate smart work and hard work in the correct proportions, in order to come off with flying and sparkling colors in the future.

Today’s world is different from that of yesterday, and it grows weirder every day. Usually, there exists a stereotype that careers in administration, medical or engineering is what you call a ‘CAREER’ and boast about that. Students burn the midnight oil and study hard just for their 24-carat golden ‘CAREER’. Hold on! Aren’t we manufacturing careers instead of creating them? Career is meant to create opportunities based on talents and abilities. It’s not essential that everyone’s interests are channelized forcibly in one direction only. In that case, it kills variety, talent and potential.

With reference to India, the youth has colossal potentials, but lack of proper employment channels simply destroys them. It is always a wise to choose a career on one’s interests and capabilities. The logic is simple. If the students study something of their choice, the work will not seem ‘difficult’. As a result, they start enjoying because they are passionate about what they are doing. This will improve the quality of their work and enable them to become more employable. Thus, on securing the career, every individual tries to give his/her best performance, which ultimately empowers the nation.

One of the most popular hobbies among the young souls is—painting. It’s not just about paper, pencils and crayons, but has different scopes through which one can endlessly satisfy the desire to create something unique. One’s creations are unconditionally accepted. There’s no compulsion to be perfect because every creation is unique in its own vibes. Though today’s Generation Z loves the ‘screen’, nobody can deny the pleasure of creating something abstract and unique with the splashing colors and glitters. The childhood memories of painting the favourite cartoon characters are worth cherishing. Who doesn’t recall the little, imperfect hands creating masterpieces on the walls and floor of every room of the house? Psychologists often suggest that painting is recommendable for the development of young minds because it allows them to imagine and create on their own, i.e., the brain is creatively active. On the other hand, gluing one’s eyeballs to the ‘screen’ disables the brain to thick independently. The brain sees what is shown, and there’s nothing unique!

A passion for painting is likely to evolve into a profession in animation. It’s useless to force a painter’s mind to study engineering.  Now, speaking of the animation industry in India, there’s really negligible attention paid to this zone. However, if resources are wisely employed in this direction, it can open widespread opportunities. It includes different sectors like advertisement, cartoon production, video gaming, VFX, e-learning and loads of stuff. There’s struggle in every achievement in life.  The animation industry demands perseverance, honest work, creativity, perfectionism and an unstoppable spirit of working hard. One has ample scopes to study and obtain bachelor’s degree, diploma in a variety of courses like multimedia, graphic designs, visual arts, web design, gaming, VFX, 2D animation, 3D animation, video editing, etc. A good animator must be skilled in sketching, have a good sense of color combinations and character patterns. Some suggested animation institutions are:-

  1. Zee Institute Of Creative Arts, Kolkata, Delhi
  2. National Institute Of Film And Fine Arts, Kolkata
  3. Picasso Animation College, Bangalore
  4. Amity University, Mumbai
  5. MIT Institute Of Design, MIT Art, Design and Technology University, Pune
  6. Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics, Delhi

A player must enter a game with preparation. Following the same principle,  some books worth of every aspiring animator’s knowledge are:-

  1. The Animator’s Survival Kit
  2. Cartoon Animation
  3. Character Animation crash Course
  4. Timing for Animation

The certificates may help to make a career but it’s true craze for this career helps in survival.  A very striking feature of Indian animation is that there is scarcity of eye-catching content. For instance, in case of cartoons, some shows like ‘Chhota Bheem’, ‘Motu Patlu’,  ‘Simple Samosa’, ‘Roll No. 21’ etc do not carve a deep mark and have always lost grounds to some foreign shows like ‘Oswald’, ‘Noddy’, ‘Tom & Jerry’, ‘Thomas And His Friends’ , ‘Doraemon’ in terms of both quality and popularity. These foreign shows have ruled the animation industry over decades.  However, some old Indian shows like ‘Little Krishna’, ‘Mahabharata’ are still remembered by millions.

Hence, attention is needed from both the government and the aspiring youth to create opportunities and careers, as well as give Indian animation a new dimension. Animation is such a career option where one can creatively cultivate talents and reap good harvest that can benefit the multi-layered society. It can be used as an effective tool to inculcate good values and awareness among the public in a unique fashion, which is accepted by all age groups.

In a nutshell, it can be said that making a career is like making a cake as both involve the correct ingredients in correct proportions, with a proper timing sense.  In case of animation-flavored cake, the recipe has been discussed. If the steps are passionately and wisely followed, career can become a cakewalk!

So, the Gen Z can probably find a creative corner tickling in their heads. The talent of the youth has vivacious strength, which, if nurtured well, can flourish and give a new identity to the nation.
